Friar Park Tenants & Residents Association was established in 2001 by a group of like minded residents who felt there were few facilities for children on our estate and that crime and anti-social behaviour were becoming increasing problems within our community. By establishing a Tenants & Residents Association (TRA) we felt we would be in a better position to campaign for resources and facilities - and that banding together would help energise the community and provide common purposes and aims.

Since 2001 through the TRA we have provided an assortment of activities and opportunities for children and young people on the estate – and the police report a significant reduction in street crime, burglary and anti-social behaviour within the community as a whole.

So, as a group what have we done to assist these reductions in crime and anti-social behaviour?

As a group we have:

  • Lobbied successfully for the installation of CCTV cameras around the estate.
  • Campaigned for the establishment of a green space for children to play on.
  • Worked through organised activities to engage local young people and promote inter-generational aware -ness and respect.

  • Raised monies for local and international good causes - such as £700 going to the Victims of the Tsunami Fund from the group.

  • Through engaging with John Prescott MP during The Big Conversation (incl link to website) in 2004 we were invited to London to the Houses of Parliament to meet then Prime Minister Tony Blair in order to raise local communities concerns and aspirations with him.

We feel justifiably proud of what we have achieved to date but there is always more than can be done to make our community a safer, happier and more productive environment for us all - have a look through the website to learn more about the group and our activities.
